We built CashTrace because we lived the problem.

We're a small team in Nairobi building the tool we wished existed when we were running our own SMEs.

It started with a hardware supply business that was growing on paper but bleeding cash in practice. Invoices went out on time. Payments came back late, partial, or with M-Pesa references that matched nothing. Every Friday afternoon turned into a reconciliation marathon — cross-referencing spreadsheets, scrolling through M-Pesa messages, and calling customers to ask, "Did you pay invoice 0847 or 0849?"

We tried spreadsheets. They worked until we had more than 30 open invoices. We tried full accounting software — QuickBooks, Xero — but they were built for bookkeeping, not collections. They could tell us what was owed but couldn't match an M-Pesa screenshot to an invoice, couldn't send a reminder on day 7, and couldn't show us at a glance which customers were drifting from 15 days late to 45.

The moment it clicked was when we lost KES 380,000 to a customer who disputed an invoice we'd never followed up on. The invoice was three months old. We had the proof of delivery. We just... forgot. That week, we decided to build CashTrace. We interviewed 40 SME owners across Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu. Every single one described some version of the same problem: they knew roughly who owed them money, but couldn't tell you the exact number, which payments had landed, or which customers needed a nudge today.

Kevin Igondii

Founder & Lead Developer

Built supply chain software across East Africa before deciding the collections problem needed its own product. Writes most of the code and talks to every pilot customer.

AO

Amina Odhiambo

Product & Operations

Former accountant who spent years reconciling receivables for SME clients. Now makes sure CashTrace actually solves the problems she used to fix by hand.

We're small on purpose. You'll talk to the people who build the product.

Our mission

Tukusaidie kupata pesa yako — let us help you collect your money.

CashTrace exists to make collections simpler for SMEs across East Africa. Not by replacing your accounting — by fixing the one workflow that leaks the most cash.
